LOCAL TRAIL RUNNING STAR'S STORY SHOWCASED INTERNATIONALLY
09 July 2019
Thabang Madiba somehow found his way into the world of trail running, and in the last few years has become everyone’s favourite in the South African trail scene. He lives in Ga-Rankuwa township, without a mountain in sight… or a physio, chiro or dietician for that matter. But through hard work, dedication and passion, he has won the South African Trail Running Championships multiple times and was the first black South African to represent the country in Trail Running. He has become a hero in his community and is hoping to inspire a new generation of youth through the sport of trail running.
His inspirational story is now documented in a short film titled “Thabang”. Film maker Dean Leslie of the Wandering Fever and Salomon have come together to tell his story through which we begin to discover and understand where he comes from and the hardships he has faced along the way. In a country where we have millions of the stories and countless hurdles for the majority of the population to try forge their way through, Thabang sets an example for what is possible with the right amount of hard work, passion and dedication.
At 5pm on Tuesday the 9th of July THABANG will launch online to an international audience across the Salomon Running and Salomon South Africa social media channels.
Here in South Africa, Thabang’s story will be celebrated through a series of community screenings where protagonist Madiba and Leslie will be present to share some insight and stories from the making of the film.
The dates of the screenings are to be confirmed but will be starting off where it all began for Thabang, showing the film to his community in Ga-Rankuwa before taking it to Cape Town and Durban. Once the dates of the screenings have been confirmed it will be announced.
